Do guys go through something similar to menopause? |
Because a guy I know who is in his 40's gets hot flashes at night.. is he going through male menopause or something? Is there such a thing? Men do experience a type of menopause. Male menopause involves the hormonal, physiological, and chemical changes that occur in all men generally between the ages of 40 and 55, though it can occur as early as 35 or as late as 65. If testosterone levels are low, testosterone replacement therapy may relieve symptoms such as decreased libido, depression, and fatigue. You can read more at these links Guys don't have the correct hormones, or lack thereof, to have menopause, and since they do not have menses, there is no meno to pause. It is called andropause. Many men in their 40's experience a decline in testosterone. Their interest in sex declines, they may get a spare tire around their waist. A decline in testosterone is closely related to an increased risk of depression. They can get moody and cranky. Their overall sense of well being just isn't what it was. yup I've heard men can have the similar symptoms at that age poofs the man...he's right. |
