As you may know, malaria is caused by a parasite (plasmodium) that is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Contrary to popular opinion, even if you have had malaria before, you can get it again. Immunity is temporary and wanes afters several years.

There are several species of plasmodium that cause disease in humans. Most cases are due to plasmodium falciparum or vivax. Due to heavy use of antimalarial drugs in the past, these parasite have developed drug resistance in many areas of the world. There is high rate of chloroquine (and quinine) resistance in Nigeria.

All antimalarial medications require a doctor's prescription. They can also cause significant side effects that may need monitoring. It is also possible that he may not have malaria but another parasitic infection. Regardless, his best option is to visit the doctor.

Qunine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinine

and here is an online pharmacy I found: http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/drugin...

I also found this information on quinine quite interesting: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-869-Quin...

To start with, he was very foolish and stubborn for not getting his shots before going there. We, in the United States have the best medicine available for any disease and can treat malaria as well as any country. If he want to suffer, that's his choice.
By the way, every malaria outbreak can and will compound the disease making each successive attack worse then the last, this is how the disease spreads throughout the blood system. Eventually it breaks down the liver, kidneys and infects the heart then death.
If you knew what to buy over the counter, but that's to involving. Go see your doctor or thr ER and ask for help.
