Malaria Pills??

We will be travelling to Punat Cana, Dominican Republic at the end of the month when we went in to get our shots we were told we should be taking malaria pills. There is a large group of us and some whom went to other clinics were not told about malaria pills, so I'm wondering take the pills or not??

I did not take them when I went to Honduras on a mission trip. They were optional. One man on our trip took them and ended up in the hospital due to an allergic reaction. I guess you have to weigh the risks and decide.
