Has Malaria affected your life? |
I am a 16 year old girl from England. Whilst travelling on holiday with my family to tanzania in the summer holidays I contracted Amoebic Dysentry and on top of that, despite taking Malarone anti malarial tablets I contracted Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria. The hospital I was in was third world and my kidneys soon went into failure. I had to be airlifted 200 miles away to bordering kenya as they have a better hospital where I received Dialysis to make my kidneys better. However I was still really ill and started to go into respiritory failure and eventually had to be ventilated for a short while. I will never forget how bad that tube felt, I couldnt talk, I wasnt sedated properly, I kept bleeding from my mouth it was just terrible. I was in hopsital for a month but now im better i still dont think anyone understands what it was like to be that ill at my age. none of my friends do anyway. I just wondered if anyone elses life has been affected by malaria or any other tropical disease. x I myself knew Malaria. I remember every moment in my trip to west Africa last summer I remember, those hours I was in coma, and those days I spend in the hospital in Bamako, Mali. I still somehow feel those feelings, and that bitter experience. I had Falciparum Malaria but now I'm doing fine. I have never been so close to death as I was in those moments. |
