Magnesium?

I eat more than 6 servings of whole grains daily, 5 servings of vegetbales daily, and 4 servings of fruit daily. As well as 3 servings of dairy and 3 servings of meat. I also take a magnesium supplement 250 mg. Could this be bad for me if i am already getting the magnesium i need. Or, am i not getting the magnesium i need and taking the supplement is fine. help.

If you already know your taking in sufficient amounts of magnesium in your diet why on Earth would you want to take a supplemement?

No vitamin supplement should ever be taked without medical advice, this includes multivitamins. Proof abounds for the damage they can cause to your system by misuse.

There have also been numerous calls to have all over the counter vitamin supplements supplied on prescription only. This would be a good thing to happen, vitamins are not lollies and are often abused by those who take them.

The question is why are you taking a magnesium supplement at all? Do you have a specific medical condition you are trying to treat or did you just read somewhere that Magnesium is good for you? You would be far better off just taking a daily multi-vitamin and a well rounded diet than taking a specific magnesium supplement.

Having said that, recommended daily allowance for people over 18 for Magnesium is 300 - 400 mgs, so you're probably not consuming a dangerous amount. You can overdose or over-consume Magnesium just like anything (even drinking too much water can be toxic) and at levels above 2,500 mgs you can have some serious health impacts. But .. like I said, you're probably no where close to that amount based on what you stated you're doing ... but I stick by my original point that you should probably skip the supplement and just go with a multi-vitamin.
