Safe to take magnesium tablets on a regular basis?

** GENUINE ANSWERS ONLY - NONSENSE & ABUSIVE ANSWERS WILL BE REPORTED**

****I AM PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN HEARING ASNWERS FROM DOCTORS, NURSES, NUTRITIONISTS OR OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ESPECIALLY. THANKS****

I have very stiff muscle after child birth and my chiropractor and massage therapist advised to take magnesium tablets to soften very stiff muscles . My doc said I shouldn't take it for more than 2 weeks.

My chiro and massage therapist said that there is no reason why I couldn't. they said that perhaps my doc doesn't know much about magnesium (she didn't say that i have a heatleh issue which prevents me to take it regularly) I also checked with someone works at a health food store and she said she has not heard that magnesium can't be taken regularly either.

Whos's right?
Wha'ts the normal dosage and how often can this be taken?does dosage depend on weight/height etc?

Thanks in advance for your time in asnwering these questions!

I would recommend taking a calcium with magnesium supplement, and if you find one with Vitamin D it's even better. this way they are bound together chemically and balanced in your bone absorption. this will prevent problems later with your bowels, muscles and a possibility of too much. the bottle will tell you one tablet a day and more than that is only if the doctor feels you need more for a short period of time. s
People take too many vitamins and they can be just as harmful as none at all...maybe more harmful since your body tries hard to get what you need from the foods you eat.
Milk of magnesia is taken daily by many people and ordered for a daily use by many doctors but I wouldn't. It is like the antibiotic craze...just because it is acceptable does not mean it is best...

Everyone has different needs and too much of anything could be dangerous to your body chemistry or could interract with other drugs, herbs or vitamin supplements. Your potassium level may be too low. Have it checked out by your doctor.

I read that a large percent of heart attacks are caused by a lack of magnesium. The dosage should be on the bottle. I take it every day.

if you're kidneys are normal, then you're fine to take just about any amount. Certainly don't go taking 20grams/day or anything.

Chiropractors are not doctors, they don't know squat. They do not even enjoy doctor-patient confidentiality as do pschologists.

If a chiropractor or massage therapist thinks for even a second, that they know more about magnesium than the average doctor... you need to stop seeing those idiots.

yes, either take magnesium at one half the amount of calcium you are taking at the same time, or if you are taking magnesium for heart rhythm health, then take the magnesium on an empty stomach with no other vitamins.

Don't take over 400mg at once without a Dr's instruction.
Magnesium is a relatively cheap supplement. If your stomach gets upset easily consider taking magnesium citrate.

I have taken magnesium tablets for 20 years. I have never heard about not taking them long term. When I was pregnant, my doctor put me on 2000 mg of calcium and 1000 mg of magnesium. You need twice as much calcium as magnesium.
