What is the difference between magnesium and magnesium citrate? |
My doctor said blood testing indicated a low level of magnesium. He has me taking 1000 mg magnesium citrate to raise the level of magnesium. I now find this is a laxative. In the past a G.I. Dr. told me laxative use had damaged my bowel, therefore I should only use Miralax. Is magnesium citrate a laxative that could damage the bowel? I really don't think it could be bowel damaging. Magnesium Citrate is often recommended to people who have constipation problems, or who are going to be undergoing a colonoscopy. I've used magnesium citrate twice before, and it seems very safe to me. It's recommended a lot by doctors/physicians. I'd say talk to your doctor more about it, the one who prescribed it to you. |
