Magnesium makes me sick.?

Does anyone else have a negative sensitivity to magnesium? I have never been able to take it - it makes my joints and muscles ache. I have been tested for it and had it confirmed that my body reacts badly to it. So far nobody has been able to tell me why. I also suffer from scoliosis and hypermobility. Anyone have any info or good sites to check out?

There is no such thing as an allergy to magnesium.

First, all allergies are to protein structures.

Second, magnesium is an essential nutrient. That means you can't live with out it.

Now, you may be sensitive to it, but you're not allergic to it. The reason I point out the difference is that people who think they're allergic to something "avoid it" and when you're dealing with an essential nutrient, avoiding it can lead to very accute illness.

Your sensitivity may be due to inflammatory factors related to your other health challenges. You may want to check on the possibility of increased potassium and also increase your intake of Omega 3 fatty acids which is anti-inflammatory.

You have to take potassium with magnesium.

Have you been checked for a deficiency of either?

Hypermobility is just lax joints. Build muscle for that, excercise is your answer there.

For the scoliosis, see a chiropractor.

You have an allergy to it. I think the same as how my husband is now allergic to mint.. he loves mint but can have it no longer. He now swells up like a balloon. AND he's allergic to pennicillin that would cure the mint allergy.
Can you just stay away from it? I'm not sure how vital it is to the body's needs. I suggest you just find natural sources of it in foods and the like, and just stay away from it in pill form. That's just my two cents.
