Anyone familiar with Magnesium Citrate? (liquid) Is this better than ordinary laxatives? How???

I was in the hospital once. I couldn't pee or poop and was in pain. (scary, not funny) They gave me (besides a caphiter), an

Enema
and
Magnesium Citrate (a whole bottle to drink)

I'm not sure which one of these it was that worked so well, since I they gave me them both out at the same time. (Even afterwards I stayed regular)

???I want to know which one works better for future use, in case it happens again. (I'd rather not use the enema, but I will if I have to)

???And is there any difference between Magnesium Citrate/ Enemas vs. ordinary pill Laxatives?

i had bowel surgery an they recommended Magnesium for afterwards, it is very gentle an it will work very good for you. pill laxatives are very harsh, i never touch them, i think you would be more than happy with the magnesium, good luck to you n have a great day!!

Magnesium citrate is much quicker

your two- part question is a good one so i am going to break it down for ya:
part 1:magnesium citrate is better because it is a liquid.
part 2:the difference between the three is that enemas are helpful but if you are seriously constipated,it will not take all of the stool out.
pill laxatives have to break down in your system,if you're looking for instant relief, you're not going to get it.magnesium citrate is the best because as i said before,it is a liquid you must drink the whole bottle and drink 8 glasses of water in order for it to work.it works quicker that way

I do know a little something about staying regular. In my twenty's I used fleet enemas pretty much on a regular basis for constipation. When I was growing up my mothers be all cure all to a cranky kid was either to shove Fletcher's Castoria down our throats or give us an enema. Once in my thirties I had a lower GI performed on me that resulted in a diagnosis of colitis. I was told at that time that my colon from excessive enemas was like that of a 70 year old. Since then I have only had one enema, after my son was born. My Dr. at that time told me to use Phillips Milk of Magnesium. I used it up until about 3 years ago, when I discovered Flax oil. I can honestly say that this has worked the best. You can get it at the drugstore. It also helps if you have high cholesterol. I take 6 capsules a day, 3 in the morning and 3 at night. Now I go every morning religiously. You can also get the same benefit if you eat one big bowl of Uncle Sam cereal. I hope I helped. I feel your pain, or should I say, I did feel your pain. lol
