Is it ok to get magnesium sulphate paste in a cut?

i got a load of thorns in my hand and cant get them out, put some magnesium sulphate paste on my hand and it got into a couple of the cuts on my hand? just checking this is ok!
thanks

Magnesium sulphate is the chemical name for Epsom Salts, and is often used to bathe in, so it shouldn't be a problem to get it on your skin. It is also good for aching muscles as it is absorbed through the skin and magnesium has a relaxing effect.

When taken orally, epsom salts have a laxative effect, so don't eat the paste!

Never heard of magnesium sulphate paste so don't know if it can cause trouble or not. An easy way to get a thorn out is to put corn remover over the thorn, cover it with a bandaid and change it daily. The thorn will gradually work itself up and out as you scrape a small layer of skin off each day. Lots better than trying to dig them out.

Given that it's used to draw out things from your skin it would be put onto broken skin anyway. It's ok to get it on a cut, but I'd wash off any excess with a damp cloth to be on the safe side.

Thats fine.

That is fine. As my college professor told us many of times. "Mag(nesium) can be used to treat any medical condition except renal failure, and Hypermagnesima"
Oh yeah, I forgot to say he is a Emergency Doctor with over 20 years of experiance. I also must say that I have never heard of using mag to treat cuts. But I can tell you that it should not hurt you.

Yes, it's fine to use magnesium sulphate paste to help get thorns out, but be on the lookout for excessive pain, swelling and heat which would indicate that an infection has gotten into the tissues. Antibiotics would clear that up though.

It won't do anything if it gets into any cuts.
