Can zinc or acidophilus or magnesium stop body odor?

won't go into details, but bottom line is I smell. Of course I have great hygiene yet I still smell after shower, soap, deodorant, etc.

I've been reading that zinc, acidophilus, or magnesium might help stop this-what have you heard...do any of these work??

please elaborate, I really need help!

thanks and God Bless You for being a Good Samaritan

Conventional wisdom suggests that perspiration is the cause of body odor. However, perspiration by itself is basically odorless, but it is the bacteria and odors coming from other sources that are the real culprits.

Recommendations -
Alcohol/witch hazel. Wipe your armpits with alcohol, white vinegar or witch hazel instead of deodorant.

Alum. Try using a crystal rock made from the mineral salt potassium alum instead of a deodorant. It won't keep you dry as an antiperspirant will, but antiperspirants clog your sweat glands and contain aluminum chlorohydrate, which may lead to future health problems.

Apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar eliminates under arm body odor when used in place of deodorant because it reduces the pH of the skin. Bacteria can't live in areas with low pH.

Baby powder. Use baby powder or talc in areas of heavy perspiration.

Baking soda. Baking soda, the odor-eating standby, can be used instead of deodorant. Just apply the powder to your dry armpits. It will kill bacteria and help absorb perspiration. Cornstarch can also be used instead or mixed with the baking soda.

Parsley/alfalfa. Chewing parsley, alfalfa and other leafy greens will help neutralize body odor, probably because of the deodorizing effect of the chlorophyll.

Radishes. Juice about two dozen radishes, add 1/4 teaspoon of glycerine, and put in a squirt or spray-top bottle. Use as an underarm deodorant or to reduce foot odor.

Rosemary is an antibacterial herb. Put 8 to 10 drops of the essential oil in 1 ounce of water and appy it where needed.

Sage. Herbalists suggest drinking a cup of sage tea daily to reduce sweat gland activity. This is especially true for those who perspire excessively due to tension. Use 11/2 teaspoonsful of dried sage or two tea bags in one cup of water; steep for ten minutes; drink in small doses throughout the day. Fresh sage leaves blended with tomato juice has been found to be very effective.

Tea tree is an antibacterial herb. Make a deodorant by putting 2 drops of the essential oil into 1 ounce of water and apply where needed.

Towelettes (baby wipes). Useful when a tense moment surges the sex hormones which produce fluid under the arms and around the genital areas that, when combined with bacteria, causes odor.

Turnip juice. Turnip juice will reduce underarm odor for up to 10 hours. Grate a turnip, squeeze the juice through cheesecloth, so that you have two teaspoonsful. Wash your armpits first, and vigorously rub one teaspoonful on each one.

Wheat grass. Take 500mg of wheat grass daily on an empty stomach and wash down with a glass of water. The chlorophyll will dramatically reduce body odor.

For excessive underarm odor, try using a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide (3%) - cheap, effective, widely available. Put a teaspoonful in a glass of water and wash the underarm. If that doesn't work, increase the amount of peroxide.

A unique herbal deodorant exists that is free of aluminum and other harsh chemicals, yet so effective that just one application can eliminate perspiration odor for days without the need to reapply even after showering. This product is available from most health food stores. Lavilin makes a foot deodorant also. Ingredients: zinc oxide, petroleum jelly, talc, potato starch, calendula oil, arnica oil, vitamin E, ascorbyl palmitate, citric acid, natural fragrance.

Homeopathic - Silicea Homeopaths recommend dissolving three 6X tablets of the tissue salt Silicea under the tongue each morning and evening to knock out odor.

Supplements -
1.One or two chlorophyll tablets or chlorophyll liquid taken with each meal may help, as chlorophyll is a great deodorizer.

2.Try taking zinc tablets. Zinc, plus magnesium, will help balance your body's metabolism and reduce the cause of bad odor. Studies have shown that taking 30 to 50mg daily will dramatically reduce certain body odors, although you may need less. Zinc may also reduce perspiration and sweaty feet.

3.A high-potency B-vitamin (50mg or higher), when combined with magnesium, will help reduce certain secretions that can be a cause of odor. Make sure you are getting 100mg of PABA and 100mg of B6.

Hello, what do you eat? Often things you eat result in body odor.

I am assuming you use deodorant or antiperspirant. I think you should not take the metals: zinc and magnesium (too dangerous) Acidolphilus won't hurt but you might take parsley pills and also chlorophyll pills.

In France they have charcoal pills that aid digestion and stop odors too.

Hey,
Interesting post -- I do not know if I have an actual answer for you, all I know is that magnesium supplements help with a VARIETY of bodily functions... Check this info out:

"(Magnesium) Involved in more than 325 biochemical reactions, some of the early symptoms of magnesium deficiency include body aches, chronic constipation, headaches and migraines, insulin resistance, PMS, leg cramps, muscle twitches, and more."

Check out the website, surf for answers, great information on supplements and what not.

Good luck with finding the source of your prob!!!

Eating lots of fresh parsley will make a difference. Try it for about a week (it takes 7-10 days to make its way thoroughly through your body) and see if it works for you. If it does, it should gradually continue to improve your odor-disposition over time.

You really don't have to O.D. on parsley though...just use it very liberally. :)

You can also try experimenting with your diet. Different people react differently to differing foods. If you eat a lot of meat for instance, lighten up (or change the animal you're eating) and see if it makes a difference.

Remember, when you're varying your diet, it'll take 7-10 days before you're really giving it a chance of working.

I am sorry, Josh. First off I would rule out all outside influences. Try using unscented soaps and anti-perspirants to see if the smell is truly emanating from you. check out your shoes and laundry detergent too. If you are hitting puberty, there is a stage where your hormones are going crazy and your sweat really smells odd. To be perfectly honest, I experienced it myself when I was about 14. I was completely shocked wondering who smelled, and sadly realized much to my chagrin that it was me. I started using an antiperspirant spray after that and it seemed to help. If this is not the case, think about when you first started noticing the odor and what might have changed. Diet and stress also effect the way that you smell. Try eating more whole foods like grain and fruits/vegetables. Reduce your intake of dairy (although yogurt is supposed to promote clean breath and healthy digestion--contains cultures like acidophilus), meat, and fats. Avoid garlic, onions, and condiments that might contain unnatural or odor containing elements. Basically this will detoxify your system. Avoid alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes. If after all of this go see a doctor. My husband had the worst smelling sweat until he was about 32 years old. Then he had a heart attack and two angioplasties. I wonder if that when he was exercising and sweating if the stress on his heart cause an unusual smelling sweat. Now that his arteries are cleared he no longer has that unusual odor.

Body odor is a result of a bacterial imbalance, so acidophilous might be worth a shot. If you really want to get at the source of the problem, try a detox, like a juice fast - this will heal your body odor and so much more. This book is a great guide to fasting: http://www.sproutman.com/fasting.html

Good luck!

ps. This question is in alternative medicine, so perhaps this is irrelevant, but have you tried using anti-persperant? Where deodorant just covers the smell, anti-persperant stops the sweating which stops the bacteria growth and the resultant smell. There are claims that the aluminum causes brain-disorders; personally I don't like it because I feel like sweat is a route for our bodies to release toxins and such things it doesn't want in it anymore, so to block that might not be the best idea. But a slap of Mitchum after a shower will keep you dry for days.....

Drink all the tomatoe juice u can stand and bath in it with ur bath water... that may sound odd. just pour a can in ur bath it works like nothing else will ..even rids skunk odor. donalore-43
