22 year old daughter suffers from functional constipation.since i put her on magnesium supplements she is doin

well..for the past week she said she had a problem and i'm wondering if a product called natural calm is a better delivered magnesium than tablets...you mix the natural calm in hot water.and website says it works better than tablets..anyone with experience with product.presently she takes daily natures made mag oxide.

Try virgin coconut oil, it's natural and safer.

Thanks I hope it works out well. Report It

why don't you give her mineral oil? i know it tastes bad but not that bad and its sure not as bad as the other problem she has.

try ground flax seed or psyllium hulls...i've never heard of that stuff....magnesium for constipation? never heard that either.

Try simple massage. It can stimulate the peristalsis (movement of the waste)
From the right hip bone up to the ribs, across to the other rib, and down to the left pelvic bone. This traces the large intestine. Trace these areas for a few minutes. You may sometimes feel hardness which is waste. In massage school we had a woman who suffered with chronic constipation and she went very soon after our abdomen class. It's nice to use lotion or oil warmed.

Also waves across and back the middle of the abdomen. Sit at one side and use palms to the other side and fingertips coming back.

It must be pleasant and relaxing for the receiver. General massage in a clockwise direction can help, and it can be done by the person with the problem. Don't work counter-clockwise.

Hope this is clear for you. Contact me if you want more info.

try Acidophilus it balances and promotes the healthy functioning of the intestinal system.........tablet or liquid or just eat yogurt

Magnesium oxide is a poorly absorbed form of magnesium. Because it is poorly absorbed it has a laxative effect. This may explain the reason it 'helps' your daughter's constipation.

Magnesium oxide should not be used as a nutritional supplement for the reasons noted above (poor absorption and laxative action). Sadly, most nutritional supplements use this form because it is CHEAP.

For nutritional supplementation of magnesium (Mg), other forms are better; such as: Mg-citrate, Mg-glycinate, Mg-citrate-malate, or Mg-gluconate.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes and good luck.

The safest and most common magnesium-based laxative is good old Philips Milk of Magnesia! Other ones include Magnesium Citrate (typically sold in green glass bottles on the bottom shelf at the pharmacy) and Epsom salts (in milk-carton type containers). All will work just fine, but be careful, as prolonged use can lead to excessive magnesium absorption. Doubtful that any of the products you mentioned will be any better, and they're probably more expensive, too.
