Are you talking about the book Fast Food Nation? It seems like you are. And that you're just cutting and pasting from another source.
I've read the book several times and my thoughts are: the food supply will never be 100% safe or clean until our food is all synthesized rather than grown. The vast majority of people will NEVER catch a fatal disease from eating, whether it is at McDonald's or an upscale steak house. Probably you have a better chance of being shot at a McDonald's than getting mad cow disease.
