i don't know what dry type is, never heard of it. For my macular degeneration I take 20 mg of lutein and 6 mg of zeaxanthin a day. In past 2 years condition has not advanced. This is not a cure but a holding pattern.

I totally agree with the last guy but you should also add some of Omega fatty acids (essential fatty acids). Macular degeneration starts when the coating of fatty acids is depleted or damaged in the protective layer of the retina.

There are two main types of macular degeneration鈥攄ry (atrophic) and wet (neovascular). Dry macular degeneration accounts for more than 80 percent of all cases, and is characterized by the buildup of cellular debris beneath the retina.

Wet, or neovascular, degeneration is so named because it is due to abnormal blood vessel growth beneath the retina that can cause leaks that scar the macula.

Replacing the fatty acids along with the herbs described in the first answer can have some amazing results. i hope this helps you a bit.

Bilberry is supposed to help reduce further deterioration.

There is a product known as Vision Defence Formula which is bilberry based and also contains other ingredients such as eyebright, lutein and a few others.

Ask your eye doctor if vitamins are recommended. Some types of dry ARMD can have slower progression with vitamins, some don't respond.

There are a number of vitamin supplements based on the AREDS study of macular degeneration-- again your eye doctor can recommend them. If you buy any, make sure it says on the label that it is the AREDS formulation. If you are a smoker, you should take a formulation designed for smokers, it will not have beta carotene.

Of course, if you smoke and have macular degeneration, the best thing you can do is quit smoking. Smoking increase your risk of losing vision by about 400%, taking the vitamins only decreases your risk by about 30%.

Recent studies suggest eating fish is beneficial for macular degeneration and eating red meat is harmful. Try eating fish at least twice a week and eating red meat no more than twice a week.

Do you take Ocu-Vite? Also my ophthalmologist suggested eating a diet rich in green leafy vegetables..........so healthy eating is a must!

Best wishes.
