Any suggestions for warding off Macular Degeneration?

Everything I've read points to a rich green diet, preferrably spinach. I've uploaded some information on this to my Yahoo Briefcase which you can download. There's other health stuff there, as well (free radicals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, synthetic vitamins vs whole food, etc.).

Anti-oxidants, a diet high in fruits and vegetables (particularly green leafy veggies like spinnach), zinc, lutien, regular excercise, don't smoke, sunglasses with UV protection.

These have all been shown to be effective in several studies. Basically, all the things that aid your general health also reduce the odds/severity of macular degeneration.

It is usually inherited. Best prevention is really good sunglasses, and wear them in all outside daylight. My dad had this. I ask his Doctor alot of questions.

It's usually an inherited condition, but some disease states can cause it to occur ie: diabetes. Also excessive exposure to the harmful rays of the sun can cause it.
