I have lymphedema. is there any cure for it?

it's in my right foot, it's always swollen, but not very bad. it hurts though, especially when i've been on my feet for a while or when i walk long distances. when that happens, i can barely walk because of the pain.

i've been to the doctor. he gave me a medication called relafen or nabumetone. it doesn't seem to help. nothing does. this has been going on for years. but it has never gotten huge, just a little swollen where you could notice it.

Hi Irish, There is no cure at least not yet but there are people who can help you. Do a search on the group called Lymphland International Lymphedema Online, it's in yahoo groups, the lady who owns it Tina Budde is a savior, she can help you find a therapist to work on your foot so it looks normal and doesn't progress. Lymphedema gets worse over time, you're prone to infections and itjust naturally worsens. Lymphland.com website is a blessing too you can learn all about lymphedema there.

I just saw a show on tv about it, and these people had extreme cases. they used wraps with constant pressure (like support hose if they will fit) and they did massage towards the heart, to help with flow. My yoga teacher says that for swelling feet, you lay on your back with your butt up to the wall, and have your feet and legs go straight up the wall...like a big L and that also helps circulation come back into the central body. The guy in Sweden (or somewhere) used liposuction to handle these extreme cases, but he was the first in the world to try it and these folks had legs bigger than their body! have you been to the doctor? they might also offer some other solutions...but I would definitely try the massage and wraps, the woman on the show was showing vast improvement (she was in Florida) and no longer using a cane in 6 weeks of daily therapy. good luck
