Swollen occipital lymph nodes?

im 18 years old and i have had a occipital lymph node behind my neck for the past 3 years, its pretty small, kinda hard a little moveable. it doesnt hurt. i was reading that lymph nodes sometimes mean cancer and i started to freak out. are occipital lymph nodes a bad sign when they swell. I been to 3 different doctors and they all said that its normal, as long as it doesnt get any bigger and cause pain then im fine. but i cant help but to miss they dont know what they are talking about !!! should i be worried or am i just over reacting. and has anyone gone through this before ?

yeah it never hurts and has not grew, you can barely feel it unless i hold my neck down and stick my neck out all the way. i have countless blood test done and all my blood test, and cbc count was perfect my doctor said

Lymph nodes may swell in response to infection of inflammation and generally subside as the infection does. Occasionally they don't go down all the way and become permanently enlarged to a mild degree. These are normal and called post inflammatory nodes. The fact that over a three year period there has been no inflammation, pain or tenderness or progressive enlargement supports the diagnosis of a benign node. As long as you are in general good health, and with the consent of your doctors don't worry about it but keep an eye on it. If you are truly obsessed with worry ask you doctor about possible CT scans of your thorax and or your head and neck to rule out local causes. If your obsession is incapacitating your might lobby for a surgical consultation with an eye to an excisional biopsy to put the matter to rest once and for all.

If you have been to three different doctors and they said the same thing, then I think you can calm down. You know that if it starts to grow or if you get pain that you need to have it checked again...otherwise just relax. I do understand your concern but when three different doctors tell you the same thing...that should ease your fears.

I had one on the right side of my neck for 1 year, I had a MRI scan and fine needle biopsy, came back inconclusive, he wanted to remove it by surgery, I didn't want this he sent me to another hospital for another MRI scan - they couldn't find it, whatever it was has gone but they found out I have an under active thyroid gland. Do not read all the info on the WEB, I done that and ended up on anti depressant pills, if they told you its nothing then its nothing, if they thought the worst they would rush you into hospital for operation.
