Lymph Nodes in pre school age child?

Hello. I have had a worrisome road with my 3 year olds lymph nodes. They became enlarged when he was around 1 and a half. I have taken him to many doctors who have ordered many tests all came back ok. He had a biopsy of 1 of the nodes last summer which came back reactive lymph node surrounded by fatty tissue. It has been a year and his doctor says to just keep an eye on them but she thinks they are ok. I still worry though. He has 3-4 lymph nodes in the side/back of his neck. One of them seems to have gotton bigger since last month. Although he has had a cold last month. They never go down though. I can always feel them and see them if he moves his head a certain way. He does have night sweats but has had sweats since he was a baby. I am SOO terrified that he has lymphoma or cancer or something. Is there ANY test out there besides another biopsy that can tell if he has lymphomas or cancers? I am just worried so much. I love him so much and wish they would just go away. He's 40 Ibs.

I have taken him to an oncologist/infectious disease doctor 250 miles away from here. He too didnt seem too concerned but said for me to keep an eye on them.

Then he had a biopsy last summer and hasnt went back to the specialist since then. but has seen his PED many times since.

I hate keeping an eye on them. I just wanna know for sure if it is something or not. Any other tests out there that can determine if someone has lymphoma or cancers causing enlarged nodes?

very worried! thank you!

I noticed the same thing in my sons glands on the sides of his neck. Looks like a wierd shaped bouncy ball sometimes. they go up and down all the time.He was right around the same age (1) when I noticed it. He's 11 now and hasn't had a problem unless he's sick (cold, flu etc..) He said the get sore. I took him to the doc. when I noticed them the first time. He told me that some kids are just like that and it'll eventually even out as they get older(later teens) but I should always keep an eye out for anything unusual. He said that as they grow, especailly boys, theier glands grow to and in some cases the glands grow faster than the kids. Most times this happens in kids who are a little more energetic than others. If this sounds familiar in any way then it could be the same thing...but I'd still keep an eye on them, and don't worry quite so much. Especailly putting him through anymore tests that more than likely will come back Neg. just watch them.

allergies could be a big factor, but you are a concerned parent, take him to a total different town, to another set of doctors. Don't stop until YOU are satified!!!!!!!!!

I would ask your Doctor to have him referred to an oncology Dr. just to be on the safe side .When my lymph nodes flared up they didn't find any thing either until one was remove for biopsy and that is when it was found ,but that is not all way the case it may just be an infection in the area too I have had that as well it is call watch and wait treatment.

Most probably is not cancer or lymphoma. Reactive lymph means usually an infection or an allergy
But because is your child and you can't be relaxed knowing he has this problem, I suggest you to go with him in a big hospital for children and let the doctors there find out what is wrong with your child. I really don't know another test better than a biopsy, and I'm a pathologist.
Good luck
Cristiana
