Swollen lymph nodes both sides of neck for 2 months. Tested + for mono, should I worry it's more serious?

I've had swollen lymph nodes for a little over two months on both sides of my neck. They don't bother me other than I'm worried about them. I went and saw the doctor two weeks ago, and they did a blood test on me and determined that I had mononucleosis (I tested positive for the mono spot test). They told me that that is the reason I have the swollen lymph nodes. I went in for a follow up, and they told me that the other blood tests came back normal except something about my liver count or something of that nature was a bit off (not sure exactly what they meant).

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance, as I'm prone towards anxiety, and I worry about everything. Should I be concerned that it's something much more serious? Or should I trust the doctors diagnosis of mono and just wait for my body to work through the virus? How accurate is the mono test? How long can my lymph nodes remain swollen? Any help would be much appreciated!!!

I have only been tested the one time, when I tested positive for mono... the doctors did some other blood tests and said that they were normal except the one about the liver. I'm going in for another blood test in two weeks to see if the levels are all okay (just to clarify).

I had a really bad case of mono. I still have an always slightly swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck(years later).

The liver test is because you can get a form of hepatitis caused by the mono. It's temporary, not a permanent condition like Hepatitis A,B, or C.

The doctor should probably check/feel your liver and spleen area as they can descend below the rib cage during mono and rupturing either from blunt force could be really troublesome. I had to have my blood levels checked periodically during and after the mono as well. You may get sick more easily (from other things) if you have a very severe case of mono. Look online at the mayo clinic and other medical websites for more information.

If you've felt fairly well and haven't had any severe tonsillitis, I wouldn't worry too much. Mono is a virus that remains in your body and incorporates into your cell structure. Sounds weird, but people usually only get it once. I read somewhere that most people by the time they are 25 have had the virus, some simply were "carriers" and never affected by it.

your doctors iam sure see it all the time, so listen to them and don't worry and have you been put on anything.

Liver enzymes will be elevated with mono. Mono can be in your lymph system for a year, but you may lose the fatigue after two months. If you want to quicken its exit, try accupuncture. There are no prescription drugs available for mono. Accupuncture will speed up the healing process.

I would hope the doctor gave you something for what is most likely an infection. If not, may I suggest a second trip to a different doctor. Open up to the doctor with your concerns, not only about Mono. Nodes should not be swollen that long. But, that doesn't mean something horrible. Again, go & get another complete check up.

You could have Cat Scratch Fever!!!!! My child had it and her lymph nodes were swollen for about 3 months...they weren't sore and did not bother her, but it did bother me that is why she was checked for it. If they don't go away they can do surgery.. Just don't worry and if you don't think the dr's are right go get a second oppinion

Well, doctors probably know more than I do here cause they've been through lots of classes and stuff. I'm just a teenager that's obsessed with soccer lol. But I knew someone who had swollen lymph nodes on his neck and thought it was mono but found out it was cancer. Now, I'm not saying you have cancer but trust the doctors for now and do what they tell you. But if it doesn't get better then go back and see. Good luck and I hope ur ok! Mono can be a very serious disease that can cause fatigue and swollen lymph glands that stay that way for quite some time! It can take months to actually achive normal glands again. The fact that your last test was negative is a good thing. Mono does attack the liver. Usually though if given time and rest as your doctor probably has informed you of, you will be fine. However, any time you are in doubt about something of this nature, remember that a second opinion is your best bet. In fact most doctors reccommend that you do so. If you have a doctor who fights against you getting a second opinion then you need to look for a new doctor. Be careful, get plenty of rest and don't be afraid of that second opinion. Mono also causes problems with the spleen as well.

Swollen lymph nodes could be anything from a cold a fever a flu or anything...i have a friend who has her swollen lymph nodes hasnt ome down from 2 yaers till present hasn't gone down but, she has had all kinds of test and she is fine.....

please don't worry too much because if you do....have you heard of psychoanalysis or even hypochondriacs....its similar to when people think about certain things too much and they start showing symptoms but the labs says they don't have it...and also stress isn't so good as well.
