Where is Lyme Disease worst?

I may have contracted Lyme Disease. Is it likely that I got it while in Florida. It was warm weather and I was outdoors. One week I got really sick, which is highly unlikely for me. I hadn't been sick for 4 yrs. + before then. And ever since I had flu-like symtoms that time and I came back home to Michigan(which was 2yrs. ago) I have had chronic fatigue, muscle pain, stiff neck, and all the other starting symptoms of Lyme Disease. Yes, I have felt this way for the last 2 yrs. I figured I was more out of shape than ever before... but not likely. ??? Are Florida areas known to be bad areas for this disease? Any ideas? Any information?

the most heavily infected areas are the northeastern states, although florida has ticks that carry lyme disease. did you have an area that looked like a bullseye show up after you removed the tick? there is treatment so have you seen a MD?

These definitely sound like Lyme symptoms. You should have talked to a doctor as soon as you had these, because if left untreated, Lyme is extremely debilitating and difficult to get rid of.

Even now you should talk to your doctor to try and get blood tests done, but it is extremely likely that you will get a false negative result. The two tests we have for Lyme aren't that reliable. The problem with this is that if your physician follows the CDC guidlines and you test negative, you won't get any treatment.

You'll probably be misdiagnosed for a while with fibromialgia, MS, and/or chronic fatigue syndrome. Ask to be put on a regimen of antibiotics or tetracyclines. I'd suggest seeking out a Lyme specialist.

Cases of Lyme have been reported in nearly every state, and while the highest rates are in New England, Florida is definitely no exception.

Florida has Lyme, though many docs don't want to admit it. Lyme has been found in all parts of the US. I recommend you join www.lymenet.com, for lots of info. Other good websites are lymeinfo.net and ilads.org.
