Can Lyme Disease give you low lymphocyte levels consistently? |
I have had consistently low lymphocyte levels on labwork over the last 5 years. I am going to get tested for Lyme due to other symtoms i am having. But I have only read that low Lymphocyte levels are signs of cancer and aids so, yes, i am freaking! Can Lyme do this as well--would've been bitten by the tick like 8 years ago and am now showing signs of chronic-latent Lyme Disease. I know normal Lymph. levels are 22-49 and i've run anywhere from 2 up to 20.3 (it's been tested 7 times and all results are within the 2 - 20.3 range) Any docs. out there willing to stick their neck out--don't worry i wont take it as "medical advice" just wondering the weekend before i see my doctor--thanks! Most infections raise the level of lympohcytes rather than lower them. I think it more likely that your immune system was weakened for whatever reason (don't worry too much yet - it could be something as mundane as a vitamin deficiency), resulting in a flare-up of the dormant lyme disease. That's just a guess though, so don't put too much weight in it. |
