Does Lyme disease come back? |
I know you can get Lyme disease twice but is the actual disease always there? Like if so, can symptoms flare up again and you have symptoms twice but it is the same case of Lyme disease? If properly treated, then Lyme disease is eliminated, however, this does not confer permanent immunity to the disease, and you can get it again. Lyme disease can take up to a year of IV antibiotics to get rid of the disease. The body will go through "flares" every 4-6 weeks or so as the bacteria goes through its life cycles in the body. It can also cause permanent heart, kidney, joint, and central nervous system problems if not treated immediately and properly. |
