*Home>>>Lyme Disease

My mother has had Lyme disease for about 16 years. At first it was not diagnosed, they couldn't figure out wat

was wrong with her. They thought it was cystic fibrosis and a couple other things but finally about four or five years ago she found out it was Lyme disease. I feel like Lyme disease is something that has just recently been looked into. My mother gets terrible aches in her bones , she takes about 12 horse pills, and uses this machine called a riff machine. She has been to many doctors but feels as though she has never met one who is really knowledgeable about Lyme disease. I know she tries to stay positive but sometimes she gets so upset because it doesn't seem to get any better. Does anyone know more about Lyme disease?

Lyme disease is a tick-transmitted infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. Symptoms include an erythema migrans rash, which may be followed weeks to months later by neurologic, cardiac, or joint abnormalities. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, but acute and convalescent antibody titers may be helpful. Treatment is with antibiotics such as doxycycline or, for serious infections, ceftriaxone.
Please see the web pages for more details on Lyme disease, Lyme disease-primary, Lyme disease-early disseminated, Lyme disease-chronic persistent, Lyme disease antibody.

This may be a long shot, but many people who eventually recognize their symptoms as Celiac disease first recognize Lyme disease as the central problem. I don't know what her symptoms are, of if it would even be remotely helpful, but I've seen a lot of talk of Lyme on the Celiac forums. Might be worth a glance? Most of us go undiagnosed by doctors for years.

You did not say where you were located. Your best bet would probably do a search at your nearest University Hospital to find a Neurologist that has a special interest in Lyme Disease. I wish you lots of luck in finding help for your mom.
