Lyme disease cases in MO in 2006?

My brother got a tick bite--his doctor didn't mention Lyme disease. Just wondering how many cases have been reported in MO this year.

The most recent Center for Disease Control statistics are for 2004.
1994 - 108 cases
1999 - 72
2004 - 25

The most recent Missouri state statistics are also for 2004. Note MO uses slightly different criteria for reporting than CDC does.
1990 - 205 cases
1994 - 104
1999 - 72
2004 - 26

2005 data should be available in Fall.

I dunno how many have been reported but a few cases have of west nile have been reported here in Missouri this week.

He should get a blood test for Lymes. I had it last year (in sweden), and its not something you want to have. Just get the blood test and if he was infected it will come back positive and he will get some medication and be all better.

I live in Missouri.i have had alot of tick bites in my life.I also have lyme disease...it had gone undiagnosed a long time.it has left me very ill.i now spend alot of my spare time trying to educate Missourians on tick borne disease. i first want to say that i have read research that says ONLY 2% of missouri ticks carry lyme disease...or the bacteria Borrellia that causes lyme disease and lyme like disaese.So not every bite will make you ill. i tell people to take a picture of any tick bite you get;especially if you know the tick has been attached for awhile.Or if a bulls eye shaped rash should appear around the bite.Write the event down on the calender.if you should develop any cold or flu symptoms or rash of any kind with in 2 weeks of the bite..take the picture of bite and date of bite to local emergency room.exsplain that the situation and ask to be tested for tick borne disease.be sure they test for the coinfections that can accompany the lyme disease bacteria.Missouri was # 1 in the nation for the amount of reported cases of Ehrlichia,a bacteria spread thru the bite of ticks. It can cause some of the same symptoms as lyme disease. Many Missouri doctars do not think or do not know that lyme disease exsits here..so it is important to insits on a ehrlichia test,bartonella,babesia,and the lyme disease.
