Who is the specialist for lupus?

Although lupus can be diagnosed and treated by family practitioners, internists and general practitioners, people often ask, "Who is the specialist for lupus?"

The dermatologist is recognized as the specialist in diagnosing and treating cutaneous (skin) lupus.

The rheumatologist is recognized as the specialist when it comes to diagnosing and treating systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Im sure you cant just phone the hospital to make an appointment, you have to go through your GP.
He refers you to the correct consultant for lupus.

By typing ' type of doctor to treat lupus' in Google, the answer that comes up isnt simple. It may involve several doctors who are specialise in different parts of the body affected by lupus.
You need to see your GP for advise.

The secretary is up a tree. Tell her so. Rheumatologists treat lupus. Other specialists are often needed to address the different organs that lupus might effect. I have an internist, rheumatologist, hematologist, and nephrologist. But the rheumatologist calls the shots.
