Lung Disease.....?

We found out last night that my great-grandfather had lung disease. Can anyone tell me what exactly that is? Should we be really concerned about it? Please...the doctor didn't really tell us anything about it. Thankz.

Lung disease is any disease or disorder where lung function does not work properly. There are three main types of lung disease:
* Obstructive lung disease -- a decrease in the exhaled air flow caused by a narrowing or blockage of the airways, which can occur with asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.
* Restrictive lung disease -- a decrease in the total volume of air that the lungs are able to hold. Often, this is due to a decrease in the elasticity of the lungs themselves or caused by a problem related to the expansion of the chest wall during inhalation.
* A defect in the ability of the lung's air sac tissue to move oxygen into a person's blood.
Major lung diseases include:
Asthma
Chronic bronchitis
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
Emphysema
Interstitial lung disease
Pulmonary fibrosis
Sarcoidosis
Consult your doctor and state specific type of lung disease.

shame on your doctor, but with privacy acts imposed on health institutions, it is up to the patient how much info can be released to families. some patients will not allow any info to be released to anyone.there r 2 many lung diseases it could b, so ask your grandfather what he was told. also find out if you or anyone in your family are "allowed" info about him. if you are included, go to the doc with him and ask questions.
