I have had pneumonia 4 times say i have chronic lung disease what do they mean?

my medical records state that i have chronic lung disease went to lung specilaist she told me my lungs were not normal have no ins so could not get more xrays so im assumingh its scar tissue from numourousa pneumonia

I get a yearly pnemonia between dec and april, my problem has been traced down to gerd. However, having pnemonia a few times can cause scaring... and perm damage to your lung tissue. I have done pfts on myself at work while learning new equipment etc (im a respiratory therapist) and it does show that i have decreased lung volumes and some obstructive issues. I don't have the lung capacity that i used to. and i do not smoke have never smoked and not living around it... so the pnemonias have to be what has caused all of it....

try going to a health dept and see if they can help you get the test you need... if your not having any present problems with being short of breath, etc i wouldn't bee conserned if you can't afford to go to a doctor

I guess, your lunks are weak; start yoga - it is the best way to make you strong and healthy. BUT!!! Do not start it yourself: find really honest "guru".

you should know why this infection is happening continuously, and you should do full investigations to know why?

This is how chronic lung disease gets worked up usually. You start with an x-ray. Xrays shows such some "non-specific markings" that are then investigated with a CT of the lungs. That can tell whether there is any scarring. Also Pulmonary Function Tests are done at times as well (where you breathe into a machine). The bottom line is that in order to truly characterize the nature of your illness, CT will probably be needed. Also, the reason for recurrent pneumonias needs to be investigated as well. Are you smoking (stop), are you immunodeficient? All these things need to be looked at...wish you the best of luck!

They may be referring to COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. If you have long standing asthma or a long-time smoker, that may be the case.

Chronic simply means something that has been going on for a period of time, as opposed to an acute problem, which is something that has just happened.
