Desquamative interstitial pneumonia is rare, but most who develope it are smokers and steroids are helpful to some extent in treating this disease, but most often it is progressive and can end with death especially for those who have the disease and continue smoking. Sometimes a lung transplant is the only answer. Because it is rare, doctors and scientists are still doing research and learning about it.
