Symptoms of Interstitial lung disease?

Symptoms of Interstitial lung disease?

Despite the wide variety of disorders classified as interstitial lung disease, the signs and symptoms are often similar:

A feeling of breathlessness (dyspnea), especially during or after physical activities
A dry cough
Because these problems are vague and tend to develop gradually 鈥?often long after you have irreversible lung damage 鈥?you may attribute them to aging, to being overweight or out of shape, or to the residual effects of an upper respiratory infection.

Symptoms tend to become progressively worse, however, and eventually you may notice you're getting out of breath during routine activities 鈥?getting dressed, talking on the phone, even eating. At this point, breathing problems become impossible to ignore.

Other, far less common signs and symptoms of some types of interstitial lung disease include wheezing, chest pain and clubbing of the fingers, a physical sign that occurs when your fingertips painlessly enlarge and the nails curve over the tops of your fingertips

shortness of breathe, not being able to lye flat, tires easily with physical exertion, cough, chest tightening, nail beds pale, lips may appear blue/pale,facial coloring pale, lack of oxygen to the brain,dizziness.... Increased resp for air...

More than 100 conditions make up the group of disorders called interstitial lung disease. Most of them cause progressive scarring of lung tissue that eventually affects your ability to breathe and obtain enough oxygen, but beyond this, the disorders vary greatly.

Shortness of breath is the main symptom. Since this is a symptom of many types of lung disease, making the correct diagnosis may be difficult. The shortness of breath may first appear during exercise. The condition then may progress to the point where any exertion is impossible. If the disease progresses, the person with IPF eventually may be short of breath even at rest.

Other symptoms may include a dry cough (without sputum). When the disease is severe and prolonged, heart failure with swelling of the legs may occur.

The most common symptoms of ILD are:
Shortness of breath with exercise and a
Non-productive cough
These symptoms are generally slowly progressive, although rapid worsening can also occur. Some people also may have a fever, weight loss, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, and abnormal chest sounds, depending upon the cause.
