Lung cancer recovery?

I was just wondering if anyone knows how often people actually recover from lung cancer. I know it varies, depending on the stage, but if someone could give some sort of average, or even break it down per stage, that would be awesome. I'm curious because whenever you hear about someone getting lung cancer, it's always like, boom, they're dead within a short time.

My personal story with my dad is as follows: He was diagnosed with lung cancer, went through chemo, followed by radiation. Was put in remission about 8 or 9 months later. He did pretty well for about 8 or 9 months, and started feeling really bad again. He went in to the E.R., having trouble breathing, and we were told the cancer was back. They ran all the test they could and it had spread to his adrenal glands, possibly the liver. His health was too bad so no biopsy of the liver was taken. From the time he found out it was back, he only lived 2 months. If you want more info, the American Cancer Society website is great.

I have never known anyone to survive lung cancer, it spreads to the brain real quick

I've personaly known several people to survive lung cancer, im not sure what the stages and percents are, it depends on the person

The overall survival rate forlung cancer is 18% for five years.

I know of no one surviving from lung cancer...my father and my aunt had it...both died not long after diagnosis.
