Has anyone had a lumpectomy? did the cancer come back? If the person does everything the doctors advises in the way of radiation, surgery and chemo, then the oncologist should be able to give you figures on how many people out of 100 survive past 5 years (prognosis). You could try googling it online to under "lumpectomy prognosis" or "breast cancer prognosis"... my friend's grandma had a couple of of lumpectomys. unfortunately, the cancer did return :-( My mum had ovarian cancer. She had to have the tuma taken out ,which was the size of a large pineapple, and she had to have her ovaries taken out because it was attached to them.It really got her down because her and my dad wanted another baby.I was 14 at the time,im 16 now and a few weeks ago when my mum when for her check up they discovered that her cancer had indeed come back. This time its on her stomach and its spreading fast. Its the more aggressive type, the prognosis says that if they cant kill it with chemotherapy within a 5-6 months then there is little chance of saving her.It is too risky for surgery apparently. My wife did nearly 9 years ago now and is still cancer free. She caught it very early so encourage mammograms and self checks. She found hers where a doctor had missed. She is an RN so she also knew what to look for. Saw posting and wanted to add that she did radiation treatment as well. Chemo is given when chance of spread is high. My wife had many lumps removed. The lumps did form in other parts of her body. She died when those lumps formed in her brain. |
