I had a lumpectomy and a sentinal node operation 5 days ago and the pain and swelling are getting to me?

i called my surgeon he didnt say it was normal but didnt think it was too important to be seen right away

Do you have a follow up soon? Did he tell you what you should do or take for the pain? Does he want you to apply ice? If it gets worse and you are still in pain, call him back and tell him you need help with the pain, and would like to be seen as soon as possible. Pain and swelling after any kind of surgery is normal, but it should get progressively better, not worse.

Most likely as result of operative interference and not related to the disease you have .

I really do know what you are experiencing because I had the same procedure three weeks ago. The doctor can prescribe pain medication because the nerve endings are starting to wake up. I used frozen uncooked rice in a zip lock bag for the swelling as it helped and was not too cold. The swelling has gone down but the pain still bothers me at night but is not all that intense anymore. Even though the lumpectomy pathology showed a clean cut I chose mammosite and it has good results. Go to www.mammosite.com. I believe this is going to get better and I know it is tough. I am experiencing pain, the swelling goes down at two weeks and now everything is healing and scratchy. I never let people e-mail me but I will open my account so you can talk about this if you feel like it. Good luck, you are going to be okay.

go to www.the49daycancercure.com...I did it..and now am okay...

I had lumpectomy and sentinal node 2 years ago. I suffered from some nerve pain in my arm for a while afterward and had trouble sleeping on that side for over a year. If you still have the drainage tubes, make sure they aren't clogged and Tylenol and Ice should also help. If you find your arm and fingers on that side are more swollen, you may have lymphedema. There are massage therapists who are trained to work with you to help alleviate the problem or you can get fitted for a wrap for that arm that may also help. (it's like a support stocking for your arm).
