My friend believe that if she has a lumpectomy her breast cancer will spread to other parts of the body?

what do you think?

I had breast cancer and had a mascetomy...I asked my dr about when air hits it ...it will spread....he said its a myth.....If she has breast cancer its better to have the mascetomy than to have the lumpectomy..The breast is already diseased why keep it.....Like my dr told me if i had the lumpectomy and the cancer comes back...it comes back with a vengeance....My reply was do it right the first time....

Some people still believe that if cancer is exposed to air it will spread all over the body like wildfire. This belief exists because there are people who remain healthy while they are being eaten away by cancer. They go to the doctor for a simple procedure and boom, their cancer has metastasized all over the body. Your friend needs more information about cancer and how it spreads.

My sister passed from cancer 3 yrs ago. She lived 2 yrs after a massetamy. A friend of ours had the same procedure at the same time. She was unable to complete her follow up treatment. She is still living and doing fine. At the time I heard a report that one out of five breast cancer diagnosis where inaccurate. God Bless your friend.

I had breast cancer and opted for a lumpectomy. It has been over 10 years now and I have not had a reoccurance. I have large breasts and the one I had the lumpectomy in is noticably smaller now. There is also a scar, but non of this bothers me. I have been married almost 50 years and my hubby says none of it bothers him as long as he has me. With the lumpectomy your friend won't have to go through breast reconstruction either.

If she does needs to get it out and have radiation therapy and chemotherapy

Cancer can spread after surgery, because one or more cells can get into the bloodstream and settle into another part of the body. If you maintain the lifestyle, (eating habits) that you had when they found the original cancer, there is a chance that any cancer cells that moved to another part of your body may develop there.

My recommendation would be to go to www.pubmed.gov and type in cancer and mangosteen, cancer and ganoderma lucidum, cancer and goji, cancer and spirulina...
