I have a low prescription like 50L 75R but i want to be a pilot. do i need glases to correct my vision? |
do i need to be 20/20 vision.. i want to make sure before i go for a pilot training.. i want to correct my vision to 20/20 since i am young i am avoiding to wear glasses.. What is your uncorrected vision and corrected vision (doesn't matter what the prescription is). You need to have correctable 20/20 vision to get a flight certificate. well i don't think that you want to crash 'eh? -0.75 is about 20/30 acuity uncorrected. so yes, you'd need glasses or contacts or PRK or something. I know from a previous friend that wanted to be a pilot that you have to have perfect 20/20 vision. So yes you need to either wear glasses or contacts. I would think contacts would be less of a distraction when you are flying, but only you could tell. Oh also you have to make sure that you don't have a problem with depth perception too, they should of done that test with your exam. I think your question is: "Do I have to have natural (no physical correct- glasses/contacts) 20/20 vision to be a pilot?" Is that what you mean? It used to be that way in the military and I'm sure for certain planes/missions they still require it. But as far as I know- no, you can wear glasses/contacts and still be a pilot. Personally, in my opinion, if you can afford and qualify for Lasik (or whatever else would work for you- your eyes have to remain unchanged to have Lasik), then I say do it! |
