I experienced a blanking of vision as if my right lens was painted...?

The obstruction formed a horizontal brown curtian across the lower 60 % of my vision with a jagged, almost saw-toothed border. I could see over the top of the curtain and it followed my eye movements perfectly.

After a few minutes, the right side normalized a little with the jaggedness assuming a trapezoid shape and vision restored 15% to the right, opeining to the bottom.

I watched as the jagged line receded and the brown curtain dissolved, right to left; the whole process taking about 7 minutes.

Could this have been caused by an obstructed capillary that nurished part of the eye?

Thanks, Ben

There was no flashing lights. The jagged border was a definite margin of the brown curtain which I could see over, and vision was 100% obstructed below that line.

NO!!! That sounds like a retinal tear and potential detachment. You should go to the emergency room immediately unless you see an ophthalmologist that takes after hours calls. Everything you described here is symptomatic of a detachment.

This is called an ocular migraine or ophthalmic migraine. Headaches are usually not a factor. Some do.

It's caused by a spontaneous depolarization of the occipital cortex. A little wave goes across the cortex then goes away. You experience the saw-tooth pattern of flickering lights (some black and white, some colored) which moves across your visual field on one side. It's in both eyes it seems, but it's one side only (left or right) not in one EYE.

They're not associated with other diseases such as vascular disease, tumors, cancers ...those things...They're benign. If you take Tylenol, they'll last 20 minutes. If you take Aspirin...20 minutes. Excedrin 20 minutes. Bananas 20 minutes.

We take stuff to Rx the thing, but it just goes away. I've personally experienced two at the same time, one on one side, the other on the other side. That's only happened to me twice over a 30 year course...I'd guess.

Enjoy...

its dirty. i can never get mine clean. rub it between your finger while pouring solution on it.
