Low Blood Sugar With Gatorade?


I have extremely low blood sugar/Hypoglycemia/Some weird form of Diabetes (As told by my doctor).

Someone told me that when my blood sugar is down, not to eat a candy bar, but to drink Gatorade because the sugar in the Gatorade is already broken down and would go almost directly into your blood stream .. And a candy bar would take a while because the the sugar isn't broken down.

So -- Are the sugars in Gatorade already broken down?

My blood sugar can drop pretty low quite frequently ..One time .. It was around the 20s. I'm supposed to be 80 - 130. So, I need something that can help me fast.

Is is true with the Gatorade .. And, any other suggestions to add?

being a liquid its fast sugar....any kind of juice would be fast if you go to a drug store the have glucose jell to carry in your purse...... but the best thing to do is to have a snack every 2 hours when your sugar dips that low your killing your brain cells you need to find a system to have a fruit or cheese just half a cup of something every so often and you will be fine the sugar fix is just for emergency not for all the time if you eat right it should only happen if your running behind

Are you suffering from "Reactive hypoglycemia"?

That is true and you should try soda or juice which has more sugar. It does work faster if it's a liquid.

yes you should also keep some sort of snack with you like a little debbie or something..also try soda, fruit juice...drinks help it come back up pretty quickly but if that is all that you do it can drop again pretty quickly to you need foor to help "maintain" your blood sugar...eat 6 small meals perday insted of 3 large meals...this will also help you maintain your bloodsugar...check your bs regularly if it is below 70 get something to eat......they also sell at any pharmacy/drug store, oral glucose liquid or tablet for you should get some and keep it with you at all times..in your purse/backpack.....put it under your toung..it will ablsorb faster that way

Yes it is true. The fat in the chocolate slows down the absorption of carbs in the candy bar. Something like Gatorade, fruit juice, candy (non chocolate), glucose tablets, regular soda is going to bring your blood sugar up a lot faster.
