What can make your blood sugar low besides diabetes?

because i have a friend who gets really low blood sugar but the tests say that she doesn't have diabetes.

Check out www.hufa.org. Eating sugar or sweet foods helps temporarily, but can begin to cause the next low blood sugar episode. Small protein based snacks really help me keep my blood sugar level.

he needs to be eavluated for any medication interactions. Unprescribed use of diabetes medicines, (accidental or intentional) or insulin secreting tumors can do this too, good luck

Not eating enough/often enough! You may be hypoglycemic. Try eating small, healthy snacks every 2-3 hours to keep your sugar levels stable. You should also see a doctor if you haven't already. Good Luck!

Diabetes is high blood sugar. Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar. Diabetes get low blood sugar, but only if they don't eat properly.

he is probably like me, the opposite of diabetic. Hypoglycemic means he is not getting ENOUGH sugar, tell him when he feels lighheaded or whatever to drink some orange juice or carry a hard piece of candy with him...itll go right away

just not eating

He would be much more likely diagnosed with hypoglycemia than diabetes. If he's been tested for diabetes though, I would place my be tthat he's been tested for hypoglycemia. He should just try eating a bit more sugar to take his blood sugar up.

Hypoglycemia can be caused by excessive secretion of insulin by the pancreas or by dietary deficency. In diagnosed diabetics, it's usually caused by to much self-administered insulin. By any chance is your friend on a radical weight-loss diet? Your friend was most likely given advice and/or instruction by the doctor who ordered her tests. Your best bet would be to speak to her about what was said.
