Low blood sugar question?

I'm not diabetic. I've been tested numerous times and have always been normal.

However, sometimes, maybe once a month or so, I'll get extremely hungry - then I notice that my hands and legs will start trembling - then I start sweating and getting nervous. I figure it's low blood sugar, so I'll eat, or drink some juice and in about 5 to 10 minutes, it all goes away and I feel fine again.

If I'm not diabetic, then what the hell is causing it? Can someone who's NOT diabetic still have low blood sugar now and then, or is there something else wrong with me?
Thanks

Yes you can occasionally experience low blood sugar without being a "diabetic". The symptoms you listed are exactly what I explain to someone to watch out for if they are diabetic.(they are more likely to drop into a dangerously low sugar range) And the fact that the symptoms are relieved quickly post eating and drinking really confirms it for me.

At your next check up ask your MD to do a fasting blood sugar on you in the office and possibly a hemoglobin A1C test to confirm that you are not diabetic at this time. (The A1C is just another blood test and it will determine your average blood sugar over the past 3 months)

Good luck to you!

I'm not a doctor, but my daughter is goes through the same thing!! You could be hypoglycemic. You don't have to be diabetic to have low blood sugar. Talk to your doctor about it. They can do a blood draw to test for that and to test your thyroid also. I don't know if this helped, but good luck to you.

Low blood sugar is called hypoglycemia. It can be just as bad as diabetes. Like the other person said, have your doctor test you for it.

I had those same types of spells for years without being diabetic or hypoglycemic. Now I have them when my medication works TOO well.

basically your body is starting to run low in "fuel" and would have to start searching for stored reserves in your body. It is quite normal for those symptoms to occur under those circumstances. You need to put "fuel" in to "fuel" your body for the day. If you are trying to lose weight have small serves of "fuel" during the day for your body to use throughout the day

Yes. Anyone can have episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It's usually caused by not eating anything or not enough for too long a period of time.

You could be hypoglycemic. It's low blood sugar. I get shaky when my blood sugar is low. I've never started sweating or gotten nervous. My sugar has gotten down to 37 before.

If your female, does this happen about the same time of your periods, or when your going to get your periods, if so it could be hormone related, or a thyroid problem rather then a blood sugar problem.

there is such thing as hyperglycemia, low blood sugar problem, one of my friends has this problem, she need to have 6 regular small means a day rather than 3 large ones.

Sounds like hypoglycemic. I have a friend who has that. See your dr!
