Constant low blood sugar.?

I will be checking into the hospital either this weekend or next to have it thoroughly checked but for now I am stuck.

I ate lunch at 12:30 and had a burger with no bun and a bowl of chili. I tested at 1:00 at 107 and now at 2:00 I am in the low 80's again. I have to eat every 2 hours or my sugars drop out. If I get in the low 70's I get an adrenaline surge and that pushes me up a bit.

Also when the surge hits, my gut starts growling loud and I get massive gas but it doesn't stink. It's just like air. If I have anything in the tract, it will come rushing out also. Severe diarrhea is a constant thing. It gets so bad that after the 6th or 7th one I start passing blood.

No matter what I do, I can't keep my sugar up.

I even have to wake up every 2 hours at night to eat and get sugar to get back up. I don't take any insulin. My body is just massively producing it.

Does anyone else have anything like this?

I do take glucose tabs when I am low at night but I was told I need to eat protein also because the glucose will only give a temporary rise until the proteins kick in. Usually a PB sandwich or a hunk of meat. I am getting to the point where I am sick of eating. All food has become a chore now.

Hypogycemia is controlled with diet. As you know, the worse thing you can do is eat refined sugar, (pastries, orange juice, rice..that cause a sharp spike in blood sugar) because that will spur your pancreas into producting even more insulin.
I know it's a pain, but you have to eat carbohydrates that are metabolized more slowly. .
For example, baked and mashed potatoes, unsweetened (no sugar added) sweet potatoes. You could also try Glucerna bars. They are traditionally used by diabetics to prevent low blood sugars, usually overnight lows. They perhaps would work for non-diabetic hypogycemia in getting you over this hump until you are hospitalized.

As for the diarrhea occurring after a bad low during the time your blood sugar is rising,
a possibility is this:
When adrenaline is released in response to a bad low, the adrenaline hits all your organs....including your intestines and bowel, which can stimulate the intestines and bowel to empty itself. If this happens often enough, the stimulation is constant, and can irritate the intestines and bowels and can account for the bloody stools.
Again, check with your hospital doctor to verify that nothing else is causing the bleeding.
Be persistent with any doctor you see. Pin them down until you have (in your hands) a plan to stop this madness...such as a list of specific foods that will help you get a handle on this, or a medication that will interfere with the strong action of insulin.

try taking a glucose tablet.

Where is House when you need him?

A blood sugar of 70 is not that low, but if you are symptomatic then it is low for you.

Your doctor can hopefully discover the relationship between your GI problems and your low blood sugar. The severe diarrhea is worrisome because it does not give your body the opportunity to absorb the nutrients from what you are eating. Also be very careful of dehydration and replinish your potassium daily by taking a multivitimin.

I wish you well!

You didn't mention what medication you are using.
You need to either lower your meds or raise your carb intake.
I'll take a guess here and say that lowering your medication would be the best answer ?
Talk to your doctor about what changes to make.Until then, just up your carbs a bit.
Have the bun with the burger .Better yet, have a piece of fruit with your lunch .
70 is low .Anything under 100 and I get shakey.

Sounds like over medication. Balance the amount of meds taken with the food eaten. Get a pill splitter.

Don't drink sugar water to get your Blood Sugar up. I hope you don't. Any ways this will cause the Skids like you've know before. Most Juvenile Diabetics know this. Only one problem,...you're not a Diabetic. Sounds to me like you should be on a liquid diet and start eliminating what causes you're discomfort. You are going into the Hospital, smart man. I would not come out until I had an answer. Good Luck.
