Can low blood sugar result in a stroke?

My Grandma's blood sugar dropped real low and they say she may have had a stroke.. Does anyone know the likelihood of this is? Or what, if any, kind of recovery she could make? (She is 85, and NOT Diabetic)

My Dad just called to tell me this information 1 hr ago. I would appreciate some sincerity.

Yes, low blood sugar can cause a stroke. I just found it on the web.

My first thought was to dismiss this lightly, but decided to do some research. I am glad I did. Now we both know.

i dont think so. but hey what do i kno? im notta doc.......

stroke is caused by a blood clot to the brain
low blood sugar does not clot the blood

You can definitley going into shock/coma. It is quite serious, you can die. Hope she gets better soon.

A stroke is the result of an interruption to the blood flow to the brain. This can be the result of bleeding or a blood clot. Neither of these has anything to do with a low blood sugar. I suspect you have misunderstood the information in your excitement. Good luck to your grandmother.

Yes, but it can mostly put her in an unconcious state, if she stays in that state too long, she can end up in a coma. It happened to my uncle. When he got to the coma point we just pulled the plug, it was better than letting him suffer, he was in his 80's just so we are all clear. I know that if I was a vegetable I would want the cord unplugged on me.

No low blood sugar is not the cause of stroke it can cause drowsiness or even coma but not stroke .
If ur grandma had stroke this is not due to her blood sugar it could be due to high blood pressure or varicose veins ( dilated veins in the leg ) where clots can be formed.
If there is no brain tissue death she can recover , God help her.

I doubt if the two are linked. High blood *pressure* cuses strokes. Low blood pressure, at a time like this, is good.
