Is it normal to have low blood sugar if you didnt eat one meal of the day?


i didnt eat a lot at lunch, then, afterwords i got low blood sugar! can someone who is educated on this stuff help me plz!!! or... do i have a problem??? HELP!!!!!!鈾?/div>

It depends on what you ate. When you eat complex carbs (brown rice, whole wheat bread, sweet potatoes) it takes longer for your body to break it down so your blood sugar stays more stable. When you eat simple carbs (white potatoes, white bread, white rice) your body breaks it down very fast and causes a spike in insulin release which causes a blood sugar plummit very soon after. Even if you don't eat much, watch what you eat. I get low blood sugar when I eat plenty if I don't eat the right stuff. Also, when I eat the right stuff, I feel fuller longer and I don't have to eat as much because my body is processing the food slowly. I'd stay away from sweets as much as possible. They spike your blood suger and drop it as well.

Also, protein is very good because your body can turn it into glucose when your sugar drops. Maybe if you have chicken breast brown rice and salad it would be better.

if it's a daily thing then u have problems with both sugars & sodium levels in your blood.. but if it's just 1 day of not eating right then there shouldn't be a big impact. ..if there is then ya, see a doctor for blood tests.

This has happened to me this past Saturday.
I was fine, had cereal and left to go to the park. Was out all day with nothing else to eat but that cereal-same routine just about every Saturday before.
Then, got dizzy, and I collapsed! I got up, and then completely went unconscious! Had to be rushed to the hospital. Was soaking wet! Turned out, it was low blood sugar (an low iron count) that both counter acted because of the weather and that in mind, it triggered something in my brain to make me black out the way I did.
my dear, in any case, now I have to always make sure I have something sweet with me, (a candy bar, any type of candy of fruit) that will keep me from having low blood sugar! Also, look to see if you are an anemic. That could be possible, too.

Most likely you don't . It's normal to have low blood sugar from not eating appropriately. If hypoglycemia is a problem try 6 small meals with protein added. There is no cure, only management. Good luck and one blood sugar reading is not diagnostic. Take care of yourself better. Have a nice day.

It could be a sign that you are diabetic. I would go to the doctor and get checked. What you got was hypoglycemia. It could just have been a one time thing or you may have diabetes. The best thing to treat that when it happens is a quick fix...such as 4 oz. OJ or a lifesaver....for long term control...eat milk and crackers.
