Please provide basic information on Lou Gehrig's disease - what it is, how it affects the body.? |
How can I help a friend who has ALS? Lou Gehrig's disease damages spinal cord pathways and motor neurons, which are important parts of the body's neuromuscular system. My father died from the disease he was totally paralized, he also lost his voice. In layman terms the persons body sends a message to the brain, but nothing is returned from the brain. The messages from the brain travel on the motor neurons. Be supportive and patient with the friend they often have violent temper tantrums. |
