I go to visit my mom in a long term care facility, why do the staff resent family members visiting?

I go to visit my mom in a long term care facility, why do the staff resent family members visiting?

I know what you mean, they act like you're bothering them and have no rights, I don't get it myself!

Your presence means they have to actually do their job and not neglect their patients.

If you are getting this sort of read from the staff, then I would be worried about what was going on with my mom when I wasn't around.

staff members working in these facilities nowadays, sorry to say it, usually dont care about quality treatment but would prefer working for the money. so when family comes to visit, they resent not being able to slack off and would rather you left so they could relax.

hope this helps :)

Some carers and staff feel that visitors get in the way, no matter how close they are to the patient.

Just push it aside and ignore it. You have every right to be there.

from personal exp and my sister works at one she sees how some of the workers abuse the residents. with family visiting they are intimidated and cant run the residents or steal from them. nor neglect them. the family starts running stuff telling the nurses to check this and why this is that and they hate it the yd rather run it for their money and not the safety of residents. you keep going to the facility that way they know someone cares for this lady trust me

They shouldn't!
Consider moving her elsewhere. If that's not possible, see the manager/administrator and express your concerns. State that you feel unwelcome or resented, and that you don't appreciate feeling that way (especially since i'm sure you have to PAY for their services, right?)

maam, i work in a nursing home and i have also had family of my own in a nursing home and these people who tell you its because we actually have to do out job and dont care...have a lot of nerve. staff cares more than you know for the patients and we DO get nervous when family is there but its only becasue we DO care what you think! we really are busy but we really do out best to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable

Because it means that they can't continue with their unethical and uncaring ways.
Is your mother sufficiently lucid to tell you how they treat her.
If its anything but first class, get her out of there.
Most places are run for profit, with caring and compassion taking a back seat.

does your mother seem like she is not being well taken care of?
let the staff do there jobs thats what you brought your mother to them to take care of her. let the staff know how happy you are they are taking care of your mother and what a great job there doing. let the staff feel your presence, but let them do your job. thats what you brought your mom to them so they can do just that. staff has alot of others to take care of as well. there very busy. maybe if i knew more i could tell you more. if you feel strongly about being a bother talk to the administrator! we get attached to the ones we take care of. could be they not bothered by that at all could be that the staff just lost one that they have taking care of for along time and you came along right after it happened. and staff could be having feelings of that and still having to keep it together and still carry on to take care of your mother and keep it together. could be lots of things. but you did take your mom to be taken care of so let them. but by all means of course show up everyday. thats your mom! dont try and do there work. or tell them how to do there job. thats what they were trained for. you did take your mom there correct? if your not happy with facility and doesnt meet your expectations then its your right to take her out and move her somewhere else. hard to say what answer your looking for maybe if you were more specific. was it they didnt get your mom a drink at the moment you ask for it. goes by importance. well hope that help and remember you took her there u can take her out. if it was my mom i would be there everyday and make my self known. but i sure would be letting them do there jobs. thats why i would be bringing my mom. i wouldnt care if it seem like they didnt want me there or not. thats my mom. but i sure would be asking questions. did you check this place out well before you put your mom there. hope all works out for you and mom. your mom has care plan get involved with that. and good luck.

if you do not like it why do you not have her at home with you?there is no reason you cannot give her the same care at home as she gets in a nursing home. i know this because i have done home health care.
