Long Term residence for some one who is mentally ill.?

My father in law just had an "an-your-ism" in his brain & back. he made it threw the surgery with only a 10% chance to walk again.2 days prior 2 him having his an-your-ism his oldest son who is 23-24 years old & who is a frequent visitor to Lake Side (a mental inst.) had a "break down", he is
bipolar/skitso, the cops took him 2 FL Hospital South. Oddly enough this is where his father is, we had no idea because of the confidentiality laws no one could tell us where he was, we finally found out & went & informed him & the psych ward of his fathers cond, the next day they released him & put him on a bus to go home. No one is there 2 take care of him or give him his meds, his father did that & now he is not able 2 do so. Were in r early 20's & were not doctors we cant take care of him. He gets violent. We need a long term facility, where he can live. they found tumors in his dad so he does chemo in 3mos.most r exspensive he has social security but thats only 600$ a month. Please Help

What you will want to do is contact the county social services for his county and explain the situation. they probably have a division where they provide supportive help for a person to live on their own, or in a group hme. I think Florida is a pretty terrible state for social services help tho, maybe I am wrong.

also call up NAMI> The National association on mental illness, nami.org. They will have a local office you can call someone and find out what rights your inlaw has.

Good luck, you need people who know the ropes to help you on this one.

I have mental illness myself (but can live independently) but I have received county help before, and know people who have lived in group homes.

Good question. Just google it. I have found a lot answers for this.
