Where should our family move to get the best autism support and services? |
Right now we live in Maine and the schools are terrible. We have 2 children with autism and one without. We are in search of a state that has good autism programs, schools, and where the state will cover the therapy costs (i.e. a ketie beckett program). I also would like the state to have long term care facilities for older children/adults with autism should we ever need them in the future. Go to this website and it should be all the help you are looking for: http://www.autismspeaks.org/ I live in Iowa, The independence school systems have a wonderful program for autistic children. I work for a company that provides services for children with disabilities to give their parents a break when needed, We have a consumer who is autistic and lives in a home with 3 roommates 24 hour supervision and staff to help him at his employer. He is in his 40's! Check into it... There are several children in Independence Iowa with autism, some of there families have developed a support group and would be happy to help I'm sure! Good Luck! |
