Does anyone know about a good mental health facility in Los Angeles?

My mother has schizoaffective disorder and we need her in a long-term care facility. We used to have her in an apartment but she just recently got kicked out. Any help or suggestions is appreciated...

if she has s/a disorder, does she receive SSI? if she receives SSI, she should also receive Medi-Cal and possibly Medicare depending on her age. many skilled nursing facilities (SNF's) will accept psychiatric patients for "custodial care" (they don't need nursing home care, just supervision) if they have at least medi-cal or another insurance that covers custodial care.
it will be a little more difficult for you to "place" her yourselves as usually SNF's accept people coming out of the hospital. if she has private insurance, i would call them to see if they cover custodial SNF placements. if she has medi-cal, they do cover custodial placements, so it is just a matter of finding one that will accept her and that you like. i would look around at facilities myself before i tried to get her in. i live in the pomona area of los angeles so i cant speak to any SNF"s in particular. sure where your at. usually, there are alot of SNF's located nearby hospitals. you can always call your local hospital and ask to speak to a social worker/case manager and see which local SNF's do custodial placements and which ones around you are nice.
also, is your mom already in the county department of mental health system? they have long term care facilities called IMD's (institute for mental disease) that specifically house long term psych patients. there are alot of really good IMD's in la county, three by my hospital called Landmark Medical Center, Olive Vista, and Laurel Park. you have to be enrolled in the county's department of mental health system to be considered for imd placement but they are the best. the application process takes several months but once your in the system and accepted, you can go to any IMD in the county. the dmh number is1-800-854-7771 let them know you want to enroll in the IMD long term care program and have them transfer you to them. good luck!
