Living Kidney Donor?

My boyfriends brother desperately needs a kidney. i'm considering being a living donor as non of his direct family are a match. i got diagnosed with type 2 herpes about 4 yrs ago and have had no symptoms since, would this affect me becoming a donor?

i've read that a certain types can be passed to the recepient through the operation. does anyone know what type?

No this would not affect the procedure in any way.

I recently became a live donor, and I was tested for all infectious diseases, including a test for varicalla zoster virus. It may or may not be an issue, but I do know that when I underwent screening I was asked about STI's - remember, when a recipient receives a transplant they must take immunosuppressants, so any virus which may be transferred with the kidney must be assessed.

What you are endeavouring to do is wonderful, and you should not be deterred - get your boyfriends brother to ask the question of his transplant team. You will usually find that they will do their utmost to help. Good luck!
