Whats the point in living if you know your gonna die?

Ive been diagnosed with cancer. They gave me 6 months to live.

I just don't see the point in living. Everything i do will be gone so whats the point?

You don't say what type of cancer you have, and it is VERY unusual for doctors to give so precise a life-expectancy prediction as cancer is such an unpredictable disease.

However if it is the case, enjoy what time is left as much as is possible, spending it with the people you love.

Nothing a terminal cancer patient does during their final months is 'gone' or lost; their family will remember it forever.

but you can be happy and feel sunshine and the good things in life..

there is meaning to life =]

cheer up

a few days ago I found out that one of our team members at work is terminally ill . 6 years ago her doctor told her she had 2-3 years to live . I would never had know by her bright personality and how often she smiles and makes others do so as well .She is almost finished with her degree , but she fell ill a month ago and everyone was asking where she was for so long , because she has made such a big impact on team morale and touched sooo many people personally .I liked Charley a lot before I knew she was ill , but now that I know I will never be able to forget her if she does leave this world .She made me realize how negative and petty a lot of us are who have nothing to complain about .I think she has lived so long past her "due date " because she has maintained such a positive disposition and done all the things she has wanted to , like get her degree , and although not all of the world will remember anything she has done , there are many who will be better off having had her touch their lives .I am sorry you are ill . I hope that you are able to find things that you derive pleasure from , because we are all going to die , but you are not dead yet .

We're all going to die at some point in our lives. The difference is you know when you may possibly pass away. Spend what time you have left to live life to the best you can, try to do something you've always dreamed about. At the very least try to show a positive spirit. As you'll always be alive in the hearts of your loved ones and let them remember you for all the positive and good things about you. Your spirit will live on in their hearts and memories.

Your question indicates your asking to us, isn't it? Well, in that case it's a long story about LIFE & Pleasure of Living. I'm shocked to say, in fact, you're asking question to you by yourself, am I right?
Then I've few words to make you understand:
No.1 "They" gave you 6 months to live---who're "THEY"? Sure the doctors? That is, some human being?
But who gave you LIFE? Sure The Almighty, The LORD?
With respect to doctors, I can boldly challenge, they could be mighty, but not Almighty! So how could they or you think that there're only 6 months ahead? In my 56 years of life, I've seen, withnessed and heard of so many miracles---doctors became puzzled after seeing their 'strong' diagnosis became 'WRONG'! It's not MAGIC, it's rather the The Creator's "GAME"! So be hopful. I may die tomorrow, so what? I'm LIVING today, wahhh!
No.2 The 'point of living' (as you said) to me is sometimes to face the DEATH! (Sure you've noticed the heros gave their life to death for us---sometimes to save the state/nation, to save religion, to save mother-toungue, to save the weaks etc.) A dead person can't face the death!
No.3 You're lucky enough that you have SIX more months to think GOOD, to do GOOD, to LOVE, to be LOVED. Just think of those who die more earlier before knowing/doing anything!
No.4 Being a Muslim, I pray to Allah (The Creator) for you to get well soon, yet we're mortal; we've to die. Please never say or think that 'Point of Living' is useless, becoause we all're leaving our next generation, to whom LIVING is GREAT! Never make them passimist.

Doctors only made an educated guess about when someone is going to die - they never know for sure. Most people use this time frame to reconnect with family, say the things you always wanted to say; get your financial house in order; do the things you always wanted to do but never had the time. And, know that each day that you live, a cancer breakthrough may occur that may help with your particular type of cancer. You also might want to get a second opinion or go to one of the Cancer Center's of America for an opinion. Do research on the computer for clinical trials that are occurring for your particular cancer and consider contacting that doctor who is doing the clinical trial.

Without a fight, your days may be shorter than the 6 months your doctor has stated. The stories of success from cancer survivors are those who refused to accept that they were going to die. It is a lot about will to fight, intestinal fortitude and positive attitude. There are many people out there who were given a death sentence and are still alive today. Why do you think that is?

The choice is yours.

You have been given this time to prepare for the next step in your journey. Your time here on earth has been pre-destined , and it is up to God's plan how long it will be. Your purpose is to change others around you to become better people though your
pain.

Did they just tell you this? I have been told they can't do anything for me except to make me comfortable. They haven't said how long, only that the treatment would not extend my life. Initially I just laid down and was thinking well I will die right now. But that didn't happen. I also cried a lot.
I got tired of crying and asked for an antidepressant. Then I got myself thinking about the fears I had, why I didn't want to die and what I needed to do. I made funeral arrangements and paid for it. I did a will and trust and I told my kids how I wanted it. I decided I wanted to be involved with people. I went back to work (I'm still okay). I see my family and friends email them or call. I then started looking at what I could do. I decided my attitude would help me more if I was positive. I also did some changes in my diet. I don't know if any of this will help, but I feel a whole lot better. I decided to go on living until I can't. I don't think you can just be at this point. I think you have to work towards it if this is something you might want. Some people do give up when told they have six months and may even die much earlier. Others have decided to take charge and bypass the date for a long time. I really wish you luck and comfort.

Death is a sexually transmitted disease. Once you are born you are going to die one day. So you have 6 months to live. Live them to the fullest. Talk to friends and relatives. Talk about things that have been wonderful in your live. I had Lymphoma stage four. The oncologist told me to read old copies of Readers Digest and not start any long books because I would never find out the end. After my chemotherapy was finished. I fired my doctor. It has been 7+ years and I am cancer free. The chemo and the attitude is what got me through it. Live. The movie, the Bucket List is about 2 guys who have fatal cancer and decide to do everything that they always wanted to before they kicked the bucket. They did die in the end, but they went out having fun and fighting all the way.

I don't even know you and want to hug you and not let go.I cant say that i understand cause i don't but my boyfriend of seven years was diagnosed with cancer and watching him deteriorate from chemo kills me.. Being 5 months pregnant at least gives me some kind of hope for us. Hearing you say you don't want to live just breaks my heart because I'm sure that you are a beautiful person inside and out and there are people around you that love you and others like me who want to know you. Think about today sweetie not tomorrow not 6 months from not but just today. love and laugh ever moment stop and smell the roses every chance you can look at your beautiful face in the mirror every morning and promise to live each and every day to the fullest. I will pray for your health every day and every time i see a rose i will think of you. If you ever need to vent or just talk im here for you..

I'm sorry about your diagnosis and prognosis.

I've heard so many stories about people outliving their doctor's expectations. Don't give up hope. You might be one of them. They might find a treatment. Also having a positive attitude might just increase the time you are given.

Although my cancer is not terminal, since I was diagnosed I have found out that I have touched many people's lives in ways that I had not expected. Knowing that has given me the strength to stay positive during my treatment. If I were to die tomorrow I know that everything I've done in my life will not be gone.

I'll answer your question based on the word of GOD in the Bible basis.
When we die everything will be forgotten, in this earth.

But when we die the Lord God has a promise to us , that on the first resurrection the dead will be alive again <--- those who really trust the LORD. Those who do evil, will not be arise from the first resurrection.

Those who do evil will arise from the second resurrection also called the second death. they will be put into judgement according what has done in their life before they wer' alive.

Be prepared , If you accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior, Jesus, will forgive our sins and He will arise you from the first resurrection and have Eternal Life including your love ones who do good and have strong faith. except for your love ones who do evil while they are still living.

I Tell you the truth The Lord Jesus Christ will be coming very very soon. Not after 6 months, not after 10 years, but he will come like a thift in the night according to his words written in the bible. Read the last chapter of revelation

The Lord has already prepared us a place for living. According to the bible we are only living on earth as a TEMPORARY ONLY! just to test our faith to HIM.

Pray always for your soul, for a miracle. if it doesnt work for a miracle , Everything has a purpose, God has a plan for you better. that is why he loves you, and he loves his own CREATION. it is US whom HE created.

My mother also has a cancer and she died , and im already happy that my mother wont suffer any problems anymore in this earth. she will just wait for the first resurrection to come. and live happily with God , again HE who created the universe and the world itself.
