I type for a living but have trouble typing accurately and with speed...?

I know how to type (I've been typing for over 25 years). I don't need to look at the keyboard, but my fingers seem to want to do their own thing, incorrectly typing words, sometimes backwards. I type medical reports for a living and I really seem to be slowing down. Sometimes I end up typing a word two or three times before I get it correct. I even use a word expander so all I have to do is type an abbrevation and a whole word or even sentence of paragraph comes up saving me keystrokes. Are there any type of excercises or suggestions to help me. I do have a little carpal tunnel syndrome and wear a wrist support to prevent any further problems. I have no pain with typing. I almost think it is neurological. Any ideas would help.

When I first learned to type many years ago, there were 2 exercises to improve speed and accuracy. First, you typed as fast as you possibly could in a timed exercise (5 minutes?) without trying to be accurate. We did that for 2 days. Then for the next 2 days we typed solely for accuracy and forgot about speed. The idea was that eventually speed and accuracy would "meet up". You might try it and see if that helps.

Well, it used to take me about 1-2 minutes to find each letter for a word, but last semester in my school I took a Keyboarding class and it significantly improved my speed. I'm pretty sure that my speed now, is about 20-28 words a minute, and before it was about anywhere from 10-15. You could probalby go to a local college that offers that as a Summer course. Hope I helped!

Hi there! I have a couple of suggestions. Try www.learn2type.com to practice accuracy. There's also a fun game in games.yahoo.com (Typer Shark) where you can also practice accuracy and speed.

Hi I type for a living too, am a virtual assistant, and I use voice recognition software. It's not expensive these days and it saves my fingers and is great. This may be an avenue for you to look into as well.
