Can I ask in a living will that I get a tube through the neck instead of through the vocal cords? And will? |
this be comfortable? And will they adhere to my living will? The reason why I prefer the trach is because apparently the regular intubation is extremely uncomfortable, if they have a reason for not sedating enough. You can ask anything in your living will even as far as how long your want CPR preformed on you. They will adhere to it but I will tell you know if you need a tube stat and being an ER nurse if we need to get an airway in it will take a lot longer to get you that assistance through the neck because the Dr would have to preform a tracheotomy which takes away from the time you have been without oxygen to the brain. I would rethink that clause and maybe put in after you have been stabilized and need an airway to then do a trach.....also if you have had any surgery where you have been under anesthesia you have had a tube down your throat....so if you requested through the neck you realize to honor your wishes they would have to preform a trach every time you have surgery I would go with just having them put it down the throat we actually never touch the vocal cords we come near them but never touch them. CERTAINLY--YOU SURE CAN( ASK)!!!---WHETHER, OR NOT, THAT YOUR REQUEST IS HONORED,OR NOT,THOUGH,IS QUITE ANOTHER QUESTION!!!---MEDICAL MALPRACTICE ISSUES SURFACE---FOR THE NOTION OF "IS THIS "MEDICALLY PRUDENT", or, IS THIS ACTION "NORMAL", AND CONSISTENT WITH PREVAILING MEDICAL PRACTICES/PROCEDURES????? in a living will u can ask absolutly anything concerning how you want your body and any personal belongings handled ......my dad is an undertaker i know You can ask for anything in your living will. More than likely your family and doctors will abide by what it is that you want. Please inform your family of what you want before hand that way they are not in the dark about what you want and they can inform the doctor of your wishes whenever the time comes. Why would you prefer a trach over regular intubation? |
